  • 1 rood = 40 square rods = 1,210 yd²

Scientific Units

  • Barn: 1 barn = 10⁻²⁸ m² (used in nuclear and particle physics for cross-sectional areas)

Reference Areas

  • Tennis court: ~260 m² (2,800 ft²)
  • Football field: ~5,350 m² (1.32 acres)
  • City block: ~8,000-10,000 m² (2-2.5 acres)

About Area Measurement

Area is the measure of the size of a two-dimensional surface. It's calculated by multiplying length by width for rectangles, or using different formulas for other shapes. Area units are derived by squaring length units.

Hectares and Acres

Hectares and acres are commonly used for measuring land. A hectare (10,000 m²) is slightly smaller than 2.5 acres. Hectares are used in most countries, while acres are common in the US, UK, and countries using imperial measurements.
